Step Right into 1950s America with This Performance of Perfect Arrangement

Looking for a delightfully funny play to close out your summer? Join Uptown Players for the closing production of its 17th season, Topher Payne’s Perfect Arrangement. This bubbly cocktail party-meets-TV sitcom paints a picture of life behind closed doors in 1950s America.

It’s 1950 in Washington, D.C. As the Red Scare looms large, two State Department employees, Bob and Norma, receive orders to expose “moral turpitude” within the government. The catch? Both homosexual coworkers have married each other’s partners, Millie and Jim, in a picture-perfect façade of domestic, mid-century bliss separated, literally, by a shared closet door.

Inspired by the true story of the earliest stirrings of the American gay rights movement, madcap classic sitcom-style laughs give way to provocative drama as two “All-American” couples are forced to stare down the closet door and realize that their future may be more gray than Technicolor.

Perfect Arrangement will be directed by B. J. Cleveland and will take place at the Kalita Humphreys Theater. The show will run from Friday, August 24th to Sunday, September 2nd. Tickets range from $25 to $40 and may be purchased online or at the box office.
